Emergency Support for Flood Victims in Bangladesh

New areas in the southern region have been inundated, while the flood situation remains unchanged in the northern part of the country and some other districts. Most of the major rivers in the southern region were overflowing and many of them crossed the danger level.

The Consequences of the Floods

Many families have lost their main source of income, as their livestock has been swept away. The floods have disrupted water supplies and sanitation services leading to shortages in safe drinking water and with many families displaced in shelters and with family, living in crowded conditions and lacking access to suitable sanitation, there is considerable risk from COVID-19 as well as waterborne diseases among the affected population.

Help the People from Bangladesh

Being trapped and surrounded by deep floodwater and unemployed due to COVID-19 means people are unable to buy food, and their supplies at home are running out quickly. Moreover, the strong winds and heavy rains put lives and property at risk. Entire livelihoods, cattle and farmland are destroyed, leaving people with nothing and no form of income.

The operational strategy

We are confident that we shall be reaching our target to give emergency food pack to more than thousands of families, out of which distribution for 200 families are in progress. In addition, post-flood rehabilitation measures, in relation to water and sanitation infrastructure, will be implemented. Due to magnitude of this years’ floods, the needs of the affected people are enormous. Any further support received will allow Maa Amina to meet those needs even more adequately. Emergency food packs may consist of Rice 25 Kg, Dal/Lentil 2 Kg, Salt 2 Kg, Soyabean Oil 2 Ltr, Potato 3 Kg, Water Purifying Tablet, Oral Saline and Soap.
