Horrific Mosque Blast: Needs Emergency Response

At least 25 people died and more 15 were critically injured in a gas line explosion during prayers at Baitus Salat Mosque in Narayanganj Friday night.

The burn victims were undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. A seven-year-old boy also died after being admitted with 95 per cent burns.

Worshipers, most of them severely burnt, were found lying on the floor. Most of the victims have burns covering 60 to 90% of their bodies, according to the doctor.

Locals said the incident took place around 8:45 pm at Baitus Salat Mosque when the devotees had just finished their Esha prayers. An air conditioner went off and sparked a fire inside the mosque. Later, the remaining six ACs exploded there, leaving the 40 devotees injured.

Fire officials suspect accumulated gas from a leaked pipe line caused a fire that might have triggered the AC explosion.

The anxious family members and friends of the injured were seen desperately asking anybody who came out of the hospital about the patients. They wanted to know if their relatives were still alive.

Some of the burn victims and the dead were the sole breadwinners of the family. So, as per our campaign plan we want to provide $200 to the family of each deceased person and $100 to each person undergoing treatment for their medical expenses.

Please support and share. Every little bit helps someone need.
